Wet-on-Wet Autumn leafs

Have you ever tried wet-on-wet water color painting with your child? There is something so beautiful and simple about just watching the color flow on the paper. No expectations of what to paint, or form - just color, just beautiful. We have explored it once or twice, but usually just grab the crayons, as they tend to be a little less time consuming, and, um, messy than water coloring.

We have been working on building out nature area, and we need a little something extra to decorate the space. I thought water-colored leaves would be a simple yet beautiful thing, and could be created and enjoyed by all.

First we collected a variety of leaf shapes from our yard, then traced them onto water color paper. For this I used a nice heavy Strathmore paper. From there we followed the basic idea of wet-on-wet as shown in the great tutorial.

After our paintings were dry I began to cut out, and string the leaves using an upholstery weight machine thread. You could use any type of string, thread, or floss that you have.

I will be back with a finished picture soon! The sun has set for today, and as you can see from the above picture - I need some natural light to capture the sweetness of this project!

I can't wait to see out Autumn nature table come together.

Happy autumn crafting!
