A new Adventure

I mentioned in a previous post, that the boys and I have started a new adventure. A few months back I was offered a teaching position at our local Waldorf School. This is a school where the boys and I took a parent-child class all last year, and where I first learned about Waldorf methodology.

At first I said no to the job. I am a stay at home mom... this is of much importance to Dave and I, and I was not looking for anything that would pull my focus from the boys. Secondly, we had decided that homeschooling was the best fit for our family right now. We question the current state of public schools, and knew that private was not an option financially.

Then something kept pulling me back to the idea, and looking at it from the perspective of adding value to not only our life, but possibly touching the lives of other families... and I know how much the boys love this school and the environment, and they would be right there with me... this just might work.

We worked out the details. Elliot stays with me in the parent-child class each Wednesday and Friday morning, and Owen attends the half-day mixed age Kindergarten with the lovely Ms. Helen in the next room. Elliot gets time with friends and me. Owen gets time with friends and nourished in a beautiful home-like environment. It is all good. It is like a stay-at-home mom with benefits, and a homeschooling family attending a beautiful Waldorf enrichment class.

So, I am officially the Parent-Child teacher at Great Oaks School two mornings a week. I lead a wonderful group of moms and their little ones through a morning of creative play, bread-making, natural crafts, circle time and outdoor/nature time.

I love being at the school. I love introducing families to a new way of thinking about parenting, nutritious foods, natural toys, the importance of imagination and creative play, and living a simple lifestyle.

Owen loves his new school environment. He has been doing things like washing, carding and felting wool. Listening to fairy tales told aloud, playing with cars and trucks, building with blocks, watercolor painting, beeswax clay modeling and lots of outdoor time.

I am so thankful this opportunity has come in to our lives. I look forward to sharing with you more about our little school!
