Child-friendly play-doh recipe

My boys have been going through a bit of a play-doh phase lately. Elliot is usually the one that initiates it. I have usually been in control (somewhat) over the play-doh dispensing; opening one or two colors at a time. Now, however, Owen can open the lids, so even if I tell Elliot "not right now", he takes it to Owen, who is always happy to help. Many days my kitchen floor is covered with bits of doh, and there are no single colors left... because they all get opened at the same time.

I happened to run across this great post the other day, and knew that I wanted to incorporate it into our home. I can see the making process bringing almost as much satisfaction as playing with the end product.

I used a little color coding in my labeling, that corresponds to the recipe printout I made. I was considering putting the amounts right on the container, but then I thought Owen might benefit from having a written order/recipe to follow. Either way would work great I think, maybe putting the amounts right on the container would be good for a younger child that is not quite ready for word recognition? Or using symbols instead of the written word might work.

It will be all ready to go it our art cabinet. Mixing bowl, Tablespoon and wooden spoon included. This recipe will make about 1/3c of play-doh, so it is just right for one or two child(ren) to play with.

and, a special gift for you: Color-coded recipe PDF! (First time trying this pdf hosting thing - hope it works)

This will be waiting for the boys when they wake tomorrow!

happy play-doh making!
