The Quilt

The past couple of weeks, I have been working away on a quilt... quilt number two. I am loving quilting. I love the creativity that it allows. I love that there are rules and guidelines that you can follow or not. I love the mix of old traditions with modern methods. I know now why my Mom loved quilting, and wish that she could see how her love of textiles and art of quilting is now alive and growing in me. There is always a little tug at my heart when I sit to quilt at her machine, joy and sadness... but I love honoring her memory in this way.

Quilt number two was "commissioned" by my sweet friend, who is expecting baby number three next month. She chose a selection of fabrics from the Riley Blake "Country Wheels" fabric line.

I really enjoyed working with this fabric. It is a very high quality fabric and cute as can be! I was able to find a good selection of coordinates at my local fabric store, that helped to tie the quilt all together.

I had planned to do something using a mix of traditional and modern logcabin style. I also saw this quilt while browsing for inspiration, and loved the use of white to showcase the fabrics.

All those ideas combined turned out to look like this:

The back fabric is the light blue stripe you see here on the front. I went with a wavy line machine quilting, as I thought the soft flowing lines would not take away from the squares, and at the same time they would mirror the "roads" in the fabric. The finished size is 40 x 52.
I am very happy with how this turned out, and hope to see a little one wrapped in it very soon!
